Mommy Makeover

Rebounding physically after pregnancy and breastfeeding is a challenge for many women in Greenville, Raleigh, Murfreesboro, Goldsboro, Wilson, and throughout eastern North Carolina. Even though you can lose weight after pregnancy through diet and exercise, no amount of healthy living can tighten loose skin or separated abdominal muscles or restore the shape and volume of your breasts. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Frederick K. Park performs mommy makeover surgery at our Rocky Mount, NC, practice to restore your body and confidence.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of surgical procedures performed during one operation. Dr. Park designs these procedures to restore areas most affected by pregnancy, delivery, and breastfeeding.

What Are the Benefits of a Mommy Makeover?

Women choose to get mommy makeover surgery for both cosmetic and emotional benefits. Some of our patients who may feel a bit guilty about considering plastic surgery discover the quality of their lives improves after addressing their concerns. A mommy makeover:

  • Removes excess skin from the abdomen
  • Lifts the breasts and adds shape and volume
  • Repairs separated abdominal muscles
  • Shrinks and sculpts areas of residual fat
  • Restores your confidence
  • Requires planning for only one recovery
  • Is more cost-effective than scheduling multiple surgeries

Some women decide to have the surgery once they are finished having children, but it is also appropriate for women with grown children who want to give themselves the body they have long wanted.

What Is Included in a Mommy Makeover?

Most mommy makeovers combine procedures that enhance the breasts and restore a flatter, firmer abdomen. Dr. Park customizes your surgical plan after discussing your concerns and conducting a thorough physical exam during the consultation. He typically combines two or more of the following procedures as part of a mommy makeover:

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck removes excess abdominal skin that gets stretched during pregnancy and doesn’t snap back after childbirth. Dr. Park can also tighten abdominal muscles separated during pregnancy during this procedure. Depending on their location, a tummy tuck can remove some stretch marks and C-section scars.

Liposuction

Dr. Park often combines liposuction with a tummy tuck to remove stubborn midsection fat, but he can also address fat in other areas that might concern mothers, such as the thighs and flanks.

Breast Lift

If your breasts sag after having children, a breast lift elevates and reshapes them to create a perkier, more youthful appearance. Weight changes and nursing can sometimes worsen sagging, and a breast lift can help.

Breast Augmentation

Breasts often lose volume after having children. Breast implants enhance the size of the breasts but don’t improve the appearance of sagging breasts. If your breasts sag and you want larger breasts, Dr. Park combines a breast lift with augmentation.

Financing Options

It’s easy for qualified patients to finance their procedures through CareCredit®, which offers attractive payment plans for women and men choosing elective cosmetic surgery or nonsurgical treatments.

How Much Does a Mommy Makeover Cost in Rocky Mount, NC?

As you might imagine, the cost of a mommy makeover can vary greatly depending on the number and type of procedures included. Combining procedures reduces costs compared to having separate operations because you pay specific fees only once. Dr. Park understands that cost is a factor for many patients when choosing a surgeon. Still, selecting a highly qualified and experienced surgeon for your mommy makeover surgery is essential. We also offer financing for qualified patients through CareCredit®, which sets up payment plans for elective surgeries.

Who Is a Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

Those who can benefit most from a mommy makeover are in good overall health and are at or near their ideal weight with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or lower. You should wait at least 6 months after having a baby to schedule a mommy makeover. If you’re breastfeeding, wait 6 months after weaning because the size and shape of your breasts continue changing during this time.

How Long Does Mommy Makeover Surgery Take?

The time Dr. Park needs to complete mommy makeover surgery depends on the procedures he performs. For example, the time in surgery is longer if you combine a breast lift with implants. In general, a mommy makeover procedure can take 4 to 6 hours.

What Is Recovery Like After a Mommy Makeover?

Your recovery experience depends on the procedures included in your surgery and how quickly your body heals typically. A tummy tuck takes more recovery time than other procedures included in a mommy makeover. Because Dr. Park usually uses the drainless tummy tuck technique, you won’t be responsible for removing fluid from surgical drains.

Dr. Park provides specific post-op instructions, including caring for incisions for breast enhancement and tummy tuck procedures.

Here’s a typical recovery timeline:

First week: You’ll need someone to help with meals, children, hygiene, pets, and other items. Extended childcare is necessary if you have small children. Managing your discomfort with prescription pain medication usually requires 5 to 7 days. Take short, gentle walks starting the day of surgery to increase circulation and prevent blood clots.

First 2 weeks: Plan to remain in a flexed, hunched-over position at all times for the first 2 weeks. Standing upright is difficult due to tight abdominal skin and muscles, and it may strain your sutures. Sleep in a recliner or with your torso elevated by multiple pillows.

Week 3: Continue wearing the compression garment through the end of week 3. After the third week, you may feel well enough to resume light, non-impact exercises. Most patients feel ready to return to non-strenuous jobs after 2 or 3 weeks.

Weeks 6 to 8: If cleared by Dr. Park, you can resume your regular exercise routine at this point. If your tummy tuck procedure includes repairing and tightening rectus abdominis muscles, Dr. Park may limit some activities for up to 4 months.
