Laser Hair Removal

For most people, shaving, tweezing, or waxing unwanted hair is annoying, time-consuming, and sometimes painful. Permanently reducing hair from specific areas with laser hair removal treatments in Rocky Mount, NC, is a popular option for both women and men.

What Are the Benefits of Laser Hair Reduction?

If you are self-conscious about excessive hair or just want to escape the hassle of regularly shaving or waxing your hair, laser hair removal might be a good option for you. The benefits of laser hair reduction include:

Precision: Lasers selectively target dark, coarse hairs without harming the surrounding skin.

Speed: Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and treats many hairs at the same time. The laser can treat an area approximately the size of a quarter every second. We can treat small areas like the upper lip in less than a minute. Larger areas, such as the back or legs, may take up to an hour.

Predictability: Most patients have permanent hair loss after an average of 3 to 7 treatments.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal targets every part of your hair, from the visible shaft to the follicle. It uses unique light energy absorbed by the natural pigment in your hair called melanin. This absorption quickly heats the follicle and damages or destroys it.

How To Prepare for Laser Hair Reduction

You should limit plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for 6 weeks before laser hair removal treatments because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which plucking and waxing temporarily remove. Avoid excess sun exposure for 6 weeks before and after your treatment. Sun exposure makes the procedure less effective and increases the risk of complications after the treatment.

Dr. Park’s Approach:

We have used laser technology for many years to remove unwanted hair. Using the appropriate laser, we can remove hair in different areas with a series of treatments. The most common treatment areas are the upper lip, between the eyebrows, the armpits, the legs, and the bikini. Men schedule laser hair reduction treatments for their backs and beard area.

In the past, laser hair reduction worked best for patients with darker hair and lighter skin. But adding the diode laser enables us to treat patients with darker skin. There is no downtime, and the results can be impressive.

What To Expect During Laser Hair Reduction

Before starting the procedure, we trim the hair in the treatment area to millimeters above the skin’s surface. We adjust the laser based on your hair’s color, thickness, location, and skin color. The diode laser we use for hair reduction treatments is safe and effective for all skin and hair types in all body areas.

Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Is there a recovery time after laser hair removal treatments?

No, laser hair removal generally does not require any actual downtime. Skin can appear red and swollen immediately after a treatment, but most people return to everyday activities.

Are the results permanent?

Most patients remain hair free for months or even years. When some of the hair regrows, it will likely be less noticeable. A patient may need maintenance laser treatments about once a year to keep the area free of hair.

How many treatments do I need?

It typically takes 2 to 6 treatment sessions to accomplish the desired results. That’s because hair grows in different phases, with some follicles dormant while others are in an active growth stage.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Many patients say the laser pulses feel like warm pinpricks or a snapping rubber band. We can apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area if a patient requests it.
